DOYLE USA TOUR 2023 5.6.2023 NEW BEDFORD, MA THE VAULT WORDS AND VIDEO BY STEPHANIE STEVENS PHOTOS BY BREE BOUCHER
When anyone brings up the The Misfits or DOYLE the first real thought I have is he is the true last Misfit!! Fight me on this if you will, but you know I speak the truth! I have been living under a rock because through all my years of covering bands I have never been able to catch DOYLE or ever saw The Misfits perform live but on this very Saturday night my luck was about to change as DOYLE came to town in New Bedford, MA at the Vault on the USA Tour 2023. Having played the venue before I am sure he was comfortable on the stage and ready to entertain as he always does; and I was ready to encompass all he and his band, singer Alex “Wolfman” Story, bassist Brandon Strate and drummer Luke Wright was about to let out on that stage this evening. My first eyeing of the legend in his habitat was when I saw him side stage prepping for the set, and let me tell he is not only a legend to look at with his ghostly makeup and that defined and structured devilock of hair, but the beauty of keeping a body in shape all these years is a showcase within itself. As a Vegan fitness girl for some time I appreciate the well honing of a physique of his stature. So after my few minutes of awe set in I was back to reality to watch him and his band command the stage. There are no frills at a DOYLE show they come out and just blast you with music, they destroy the soundwaves with intensity and professionalism and leave themselves a sweaty and magical mess. Alex is beyond intriguing in an odd and exotic way. A man of small side conversation onstage but the way he devours lyrics and spews them out in emotion during the set is alluring and sometimes a little scary. Brandon just chills on the sidelines giving you that deafening low pitched bass seduction and Luke pretty much looks like he was 12 years old behind the kit but can play the shit out of the drums. Then we have DOYLE W. VON FRANKENSTEIN aka “The Monster” who just handles the guitar slot like the season pro he is. So focused on his instrument and giving the crowd an up front and personal display of his talent. Some highlights for me tonight was the songs ABOMINATOR, DREAMING DEAD GIRLS and my favorite track of his solo album CEMETERYSEXXX. After tonight I am more intrigued with DOYLE and hopefully one day can sit down and chat with the man, the legend the Monster about his life as a musician and his fitness journey. But for now I will continue listening, learning and will now have a memory of getting to see this Iconic artist in a live setting. Enjoy my collage of some of the set from the night and the live shots we got while they performed! Keep an eye on this tour and they hit more towns and Cities throughout the US.
